Nvidia 11th series soon?

The latest whisper on the grapevine is that Nvidia’s third-party graphics card manufacturing partners will be getting shipments of next-gen GPUs in August (or possibly early September), meaning that fresh GeForce video cards – likely called GTX 1180 (at least in the case of the initial flagship) – will be inbound shortly thereafter.

This info comes from Wccftech.com, with the tech site claiming to have received confirmation of the aforementioned shipping timeframe, which follows previous rumors indicating a Q3 (July to September) launch for the next-gen GeForce cards.

If GPUs are sent out to graphics card manufacturers in August, the argument is that we should see Nvidia’s GTX 1180 (or whatever it ends up being called) Founders Edition being launched probably just a few short weeks after – so, maybe September.

Obviously that’s far from guaranteed, though, and a lot will depend on whether any technical problems are encountered with the new (thought to be codenamed Turing) technology over the homestretch.

However, things are likely to move fast once the GPUs are shipped out to third-party manufacturers simply because, at that point, leaks are going to be difficult to prevent, so Nvidia better be ready to go.

After disappointing news of delays – we were previously expecting a launch date as early as July – it’s good to hear that everything could be about to kick off for Nvidia’s next-gen cards.

The downside? The report notes that these initial shipments to GPU vendors will be delivered in small amounts, indeed, probably in the low hundreds. And a chunk of those will be used for development boards, which in turn means you can expect supply to be thin on the ground initially.

That’s hardly a surprise in the GPU world though, where after launch, the latest video cards can be pretty difficult to get hold of, and thus often command a price premium (although that’s a scenario gamers are familiar with anyway, in recent times, thanks to cryptocurrency miners).

All this is speculation, of course, and comes off the back of recent reports that Nvidia has an excess supply of current-gen GPUs after miscalculating the aforementioned demand from cryptocurrency miners, which has now dropped off (not to mention overall demand flagging).

That factor could still point to a launch which is a bit further off than we’d ideally like – particularly if folks hold off buying 10-series cards in expectation of imminent Turing products, which may be what’s already happening.

Further rumor has it that the GTX 1180 will boast 3,584 CUDA cores, 16GB of GDDR6 VRAM and an FP32 performance (think of that as raw power) of 13 Teraflops (compared to 8.7 Teraflops for the GTX 1080). So, the wait could very well be worth your while.

Nokia is back!

Nokia WILL Return in 2017 With Two New Android Phones: Specs, Hardware & Release Date Rumours

We're all familiar with Nokia. Together with other key phone manufacturers from the 90's (such as Motorola), the firm pretty much dominated the early mobile space, back before smartphones, and produced some of the most iconic feature phones in the industry; devices which are still much-loved and often used even today. With the emergence of smartphones, the likes of Nokia and Motorola took a back seat for a time, while Apple, Samsung, and others pretty much took over. Nokia took a gamble and got involved with Microsoft on the Windows Phone project, a gamble which ultimately didn't pay off and resulted in Microsoft buying up Nokia's smartphone division, as well as the exclusive rights to produce devices under the Nokia brand...until now, that is.

Nokia has announced that its CEO, Rajeev Suri, will be speaking at a keynote at MWC 2017, alongside chief execs of major carrier networks and app and service developers. Meanwhile, Microsoft's CEO of its Asia-Pacific branch, James Rutherfoord, has gone on the record saying HMD Global - the firm which has acquired the rights to sell Nokia phones and is teaming up with Nokia itself - will launch multiple devices in 2016 and 2017.

As of November 21, Nokia itself has released details confirming its plans to release new smartphone devices in 2017. Nokia gave a presentation to investors at a Capital Markets Day event and a PDF file is now hosted on the firm's webpage which includes the slides for that presentation. Amongst the slides there is a roadmap for 2016-2018. For the 2016 we can see Nokia's recent acquisition of health tech firm Withings, "brand & patent licenses" under HMD, license agreement expansion with Samsung, and the firm's OZO VR Camera. 

For 2017, Nokia talks about plans for "expanded VR leadership", which could be interpreted in any number of ways, but dare we hope for a VR headset? "Digital Health" branding is also mentioned, probably capitalising on the Withings acquisition; it's possible we could see new health and fitness wearables from Nokia. There's also talk of further "patent licensing expansion in mobile, automotive and consumer electronics," which all sounds very promising. BUT, the real meat comes in this simple line:

"Nokia brand's return to smartphones."

Quite powerful in its understatement, no? Yes folks, Nokia is planning a smartphone revival in 2017 and it's now official. However, the news doesn't change the fact that the revival of the Nokia brand will still be a licensing partnership under the guidance of HMD, rather than Nokia producing the phones outright as it used to. More details on the HMD deal can be found further down this article.


According to details sourced by NokiaPowerUser from a "Vietnamese publication", HMD will launch "two new phone products in the fourth quarter 2016 and at least two smartphones in the early second quarter 2017."

This statement is being interpreted as implying the first two phones will be feature phones rather than smartphones. Truth be told, we don't find the prospect of new feature phones very inspiring, so the really exciting stuff for us will be early 2017 onwards when actual Android-based Nokia smartphones are expected to appear. Basically we should all be watching MWC 2017 for Nokia's triumphant return to the smartphone space.

NPR says, "The phone manufacturing factory of Microsoft in Bac Ninh, Vietnam, is managed by FIH Mobile. As per agreement between HMD, FIH and Nokia; FIH has acquired Nokia production facilities, global sales and distribution network from Microsoft. So, this plant may produce upcoming two new Nokia phones, expected to be launched later this year."

The Nokia brand, as rumoured, is returning to the mobile space to make Android-powered smartphones and tablets. The news was confirmed in a press release from the company, which is now owned by HMD, a new company set up to enable the proliferation of Nokia-branded phones and tablets.

Here’s the official line from HMD on what’s happening:

“HMD has been founded to provide a focused, independent home for a full range of Nokia-branded feature phones, smartphones and tablets. To complete its portfolio of Nokia branding rights, HMD announced today that it has conditionally agreed to acquire from Microsoft the rights to use the Nokia brand on feature phones, and certain related design rights. The Microsoft transaction is expected to close in H2 2016. Together these agreements would make HMD the sole global licensee for all types of Nokia-branded mobile phones and tablets. HMD intends to invest over USD 500 million over the next three years to support the global marketing of Nokia-branded mobile phones and tablets, funded via its investors and profits from the acquired feature phone business.”

Microsoft’s Nokia “thing” ends in the second half of 2016, leaving the market wide open for new Nokia handsets. The composition of the HMD is odd, to say the least. Nokia will not be investing any money in the project but it will receive royalties and sit on the board of HMD’s directors. Quite a few of Nokia’s old top brass will be returning to the fold as well.

“This agreement will give HMD full operational control of sales, marketing and distribution of Nokia-branded mobile phones and tablets, with exclusive access to the pre-eminent global sales and distribution network to be acquired from Microsoft by FIH, access to FIH’s world-leading device manufacturing, supply chain and engineering capabilities, and to its growing suite of proprietary mobile technologies and components,” said HMD in a press release.

What this means is simple: Nokia WILL return with Android phones and tablets, as well as wearables off the back of its Withings acquisition. No doubt we’ll be hearing A LOT more about this and the future of Nokia in the coming weeks and months.

Can Nokia carve a niche for itself in the Android space? I personally think it can; the Nokia brand is strong and has a lot of history. A strong release could certainly do well. But I do concede, as the Telegraph notes below, that things won't exactly be EASY:

"Apple dominates the high-end, especially in the West, and Samsung is a fierce competitor. Asian smartphone manufacturers – Oppo, Xiaomi, Huawei, Vivo – are eating into the feature phone market that was Nokia’s playground. Other respected names, such as Sony and LG, have struggled to have a real impact on the market. Motorola and BlackBerry, two other once-mighty phone makers, have not been able to trade on the back of their legacies: there’s no immediate reason that Nokia should be any different."

It added: "The smartphone market, now bereft of innovation, has become ruthless, with profits difficult to come by. One suspects Nokia has missed its opportunity. We should wish it all the best, but the odds are stacked against it."

Nokia Exec Confirms At Least Three Phones -- Two Flagships -- For Q4 2016

BIG NEWS! Nokia has confirmed it will be releasing at least three Android phones before the close of 2016. It could be just two for 2016, however, as the third will depend how well testing goes — this latter phone could debut inside Q1 2017, likely at MWC 2017.

Mike Wang, president of the joint management team, Nokia China, confirmed the news to Chinese press officials.

Of the three phones coming, two will be “flagship” handsets, meaning high-end specs and high-end features. As of right now the two flagships are rumoured to feature: 5.2 and 5.5-inch QHD OLED displays, Snapdragon 820 processors, 22.6MP graphene cameras, metal construction, water and dust resistance, and Android 7.0 Nougat.

The other phone will be a cheaper, mid-range model similar to the Moto G4, no doubt.

Nokia Android Phone Specs LEAK; Now We're VERY Excited

Nokia's back in the game folks...or at least it will be very soon if some brand new details about its Android ambitions are to be blieved. We've heard before that Nokia has plans to re-enter the smartphone space using Google's Android platform but there's been a lot of vague back-and-forth on what to expect until now. On July 18, a new leak has revealed some interesting snippets about Nokia's non-Microsoft, non-Windows, and non-Lumia plans. Two phones are in the works, both running Android and apparently coming in late 2016 or early 2017.

The news for the Nokia duo is a 5.2in and 5.5in arrangement. Sources for this info comes via NokiaPowerUser's "trusted sources" and also via Gizmochina, with GC's report claiming both models will have 2K display resolutions, and NPU saying instead QHD on Super AMOLED panels for both. The reports also add we're looking at a metallic build which will re-introduce Nokia's distinctive build and design qualities of yesteryear (we're guessing this means in terms of solid build, decent materials, and a nice feel in the hand), as well as IP68 waterproofing certification on both handsets. Additionally, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor is name-dropped for both devices too, meaning they're both apparently more-or-less equal-footing high-end devices rather than a high and mid-ranger dual-launch.

The 5.5in model is mentioned to have a 22MP camera. NPU says the sensors are the "most sensitive ever and will be based upon Nokia’s extensive research on wonder material Graphene". We can likely assume the camera will not be branded as PureView as this went over to Microsoft with its earlier acquisition of the Lumia brand and team, but with Nokia having pioneered such advanced camera tech once already it seems quite probably it'll have re-developed something equally capable. We're looking forward to a new high-end camera brand name from Nokia for this!

GizmoChina reports that the phones will be available in China (of course they will likely be available elsewhere too!) with an expected price of around $500 US. In terms of launch we are apparently looking at very late in 2016 or possible Q1 2017 if things roll back a bit.

As you can see, while there is some crossover between the reports there are also some glaring differences, meaning the picture is not entirely clear at this point. Still, the corroborating evidence confirms that there are indeed a couple of Android phones coming from Nokia at 5.2in and 5.5in. We'll be sure to keep you posted with more details and evidence as we find it.

Further details have leaked showcasing what we can expect from the Nokia C1. For starters, NokiaPowerUser received a render from a tipster, which is alleged to authentically show what the device will look like. It's not clear if this is a genuine Nokia render, or a render made by someone who has been briefed on (or seen) the device, and NPU encourages readers to take things with a pinch of salt.

That said, it certainly looks the business, as we're used to seeing very polished designs from Nokia. It appears to have a very thin metal body and a coloured glass or polycarbonate back panel, however there is something a bit iPhone-like about the design that's sure to generate a few raised eyebrows.



According to the information handed to NPU, the Nokia C1 may come in two different size variants which will broadly share a spec sheet, but will have different camera tech, RAM, and onboard storage. 

The display size is quoted at either 5.5in or 5in both with Full HD resolution. The 5in model will have 2GB of RAM with 32GB of storage space and an 8MP camera, while the larger 5.5in has 3GB RAM, a 13MP camera and 64GB onboard storage. Both will feature 5MP front-facing secondary cameras.

As for the software, it's going to be Android-based, although we'd expect it won't get away clean and will likely have Nokia UI stuff put on top. There's also going to be Windows 10 variants in select markets, allegedly.

"The new range of Nokia mobile phones and tablets will be based exclusively on Google Android operating system," reports AnanTech, "which is not surprising. It is logical to expect Nokia to introduce its own implementation of Android as well as exclusive programs. However, from a hardware standpoint, the first wave of Nokia-branded devices will likely use platforms developed by third parties. Some of Nokia's traditional IP remains at Microsoft: the PureView camera technology (a massive sensor with an image co-processor and a set of sophisticated algorithms that “know” how to process oversampled images), ClearBlack display technology (a set of special filters on the display that can enhance blacks) and some other important assets. Which is why HMD and Foxconn (and, perhaps, Nokia?) will have to develop new technologies for high-quality imaging and displays because both features are crucial for modern handsets, especially in a competitive mid-range market.

We do not expect HMD and Foxconn to introduce custom SoCs for Nokia devices anytime soon both due to technological and financial reasons. Even though Foxconn has been adding semiconductor design capabilities into its war chest for some time now, it is unlikely that the company can produce anything comparable to Mediatek's low-cost SoCs, and as a result the software will play a critical role for the new Nokia smartphones and tablets. A good news is that Nokia plans to control certain aspects of design, performance and feature-set of the devices, which could mean exclusive technologies and capabilities. Moreover, the real fruits from Nokia’s participation in the project should emerge with the roll-out of 5G networks in 2020 – 2022. Nokia is a big contributor to the standard and it could help its partners to capitalize on it."

Tor can get by quite a few captive portals and it all varies on the type of captive portal you are connecting to. The legality of you bypassing a captive portal is a different topic. I think it may be illegal to bypass a captive portal and connect to a Wifi network but I am no lawyer. Tor can also give you free Comcasts internet by bypassing the Comcast captive portal after your service is suspended. In other words, Tor gives you extra free months of internet before Comcast totally pulls the plug on you.

Li-O2 battery can store 5 times the enery than li-ion batteries!!


It’s the question that smartphone users have been asking for years: When will we get vastly better battery power in our devices? Thanks to some breakthrough research, significantly better battery technology may arrive sooner than expected. IFLScience points us to new research published in the Nature science journal that describes a prototype for a so-called “lithium-oxygen” battery that is based on lithium superoxide (LiO2) and can store up to five times the energy of current lithium-ion batteries.
               
According to the article in Nature, these kinds of batteries have proven tricky to develop in the past since “solid LiO2 has been difficult to synthesize in pure form because it is thermodynamically unstable.” However, they’ve now discovered “that crystalline LiO2 can be stabilized in a Li–O2 battery by using a suitable graphene-based cathode,” thus making it far less likely that these batteries will overheat.

“This discovery really opens a pathway for the potential development of a new kind of battery,” Larry Curtiss, one of the coauthors of the study, explained in an official statement posted by the Argonne National Laboratory. “Although a lot more research is needed, the cycle life of the battery is what we were looking for.”

Curtiss also explains that using lithium-superoxide to store energy offers the promise of creating a lithium-air battery that is a closed system and thus wouldn’t require constant intake of oxygen. Such closed systems are safer and more stable than open systems.

Samsung might manufacture Snapdragon 830 using 10nm process


Qualcomm is quite probably the best known mobile SoC manufacturer in the world. The company’s Snapdragon chips have been around for quite some time now, and are included in a ton of smartphones, tablets and smartwatches these days. The company’s Snapdragon 810 flagship SoC which was released last year had its issues, and the company is looking to improve upon that with the Snapdragon 820 which will be available out in the market really soon. The Snapdragon 820 isn’t even available yet, and we’ve started receiving Snapdragon 830 rumors and what not, read on.

Back in December, a rumor surfaced saying that the Snapdragon 830 will support up to 8GB of RAM. Well, a new piece of info popped up today, and it basically confirms that info, while it adds more details to the mix. According to this rumor from Weibo (Chinese social network), the Snapdragon 830 will be  manufactured using Samsung’s 10nm process, and it will continue using Kyro architecture. Now, the 10nm architecture will bring more power efficiency to the table, and should overall improve today’s chips. The Exynos 7420, Snapdragon 820 and the upcoming Exynos 8890 all use the 14nm manufacturing process, just to give you an example.

It seems a bit early to make Snapdragon 830 predictions and to comment on rumors, but everything listed here makes sense. 4GB of RAM became a standard for flagship devices (or will become a standard soon), so it seems probable that the Snapdragon 830 will enable OEMs up to 8GB of RAM (which doesn’t mean they’ll use that option), especially considering the fact that this chip won’t be released before Q1 2017. This will be a really interesting year as far as mobile processors are concerned. Snapdragon 820 and Exynos 8890 are the frontrunners this year, but the Kirin 950 is a great chip, and the Helio X20 is expected to challenge others as well. The Snapdragon 820 will be used in a ton of flagship phones this year, as it’s usually the case with Snapdragon chips, but it seems like Samsung will release the Exynos 8870 for OEMs to use as well. This chip is said to be identical to the 8890, but it will offer a lower clock speed.

There’s a stealthy startup in Silicon Valley that’s working to revolutionize photography. It’s called Light, and one of its goals is putting 52-megapixel cameras in smartphones by next year.

The company has mostly been quiet about its technology and goals: its website is basically a landing page with a newsletter signup form, and its Facebook account has just been sharing interesting photo stories from around the Web. However, MIT Technology Review just published a first look on what Light is working on.

We now know that the company is working on building camera modules that feature an array of lenses and sensors. By combining the images captured by the different cameras, a higher-quality image can be achieved without greatly increasing the size of the camera module. 


Sound familiar? The idea — and the stealthiness — is reminiscent of LinX, the company that Apple just acquired for a reported $20 million.
Just like with LinX, Light is saying that its innovative camera design will pack “the quality and zoom” of a DSLR into the slim form factor of a smartphone camera.
The system also allows for greater zoom capabilities. “The level of zoom that the user selects determines which modules will fire when he takes a picture, and where the mirror contained in each module moves to capture light,” writes the Technology Review. “It could aim for light straight ahead, or off at an angle, for instance. The resulting shots are then digitally combined in a way that emulates a much bigger camera lens.”

Oh, and like Linx (and Lytro), Light is also saying that photographers will be able refocus their shots after they’re captured.
The company doesn’t have a working prototype of a full camera module yet, but it expects to put 52-megapixel cameras in smartphones by the end of 2016. And get this: Light has reportedly signed a licensing and investment deal with Foxconn, the world’s largest contract electronics manufacturer that plays a huge role in Apple’s manufacturing.
So things are getting interesting in this space. In just one week, we’ve learned that Apple and one of its main manufacturers have both jumped into the world of multi-lens-and-sensor camera modules for smartphones. It looks like they believe this to be the future of smartphone photography.


HOW IT WORKS?


The L16 camera features 16 different lenses that shoot at different focal lengths ranging from 35mm wide-angle to 150mm telephoto.

It uses these to take different details from a scene and then merges the data into a 52-megapixel picture.

The user can then change the image's depth, focus and exposure after the image has been taken and share it on social media via built-in Wi-Fi.

New generation Sim will be in 2017



One of the key things that we learned from Gemalto getting hacked earlier this year was that the SIM card technology in our phones has grown outdated. We've been using the same technology for decades now; also, we're heavily reliant on the Netherlands-based company for SIMs. Apple and Samsung, the two companies that don't usually see eye to eye, have come forward in an attempt to fix both the issues, it appears.
The two companies are in advanced talks to start using electronic SIM cards in smartphones, reports the Financial Times. The report further claims that the SIM card in question will make it easier for users to switch between telecom operators. As we noted above, one of the ideas behind this new SIM card is to bolster the underlying security.

The GSMA, an industry association that represents mobile operators, confirmed the collaboration between Samsung andApple. It further noted that there's an agreement soon to be announced detailing standards for the new SIMs. But don't expect these new SIM cards to hit the market until next year, it says.

Moreover, at the time of launch, there will be limited network providers to support the new SIM. As per the report, some American and British network providers including AT&T, Deutsche Telekom, Etisalat, Hutchison Whampoa, Orange, Telefonica and Vodafone are expected to support the plans. These companies are working towards an agreement for "common architecture."

"With the majority of operators on board, the plan is to finalise the technical architecture that will be used in the development of an end-to-end remote SIM solution for consumer devices, with delivery anticipated by 2016," the organisation said in a statement to the paper.

Last year, Apple announced its own SIM card for the iPad Air 2. The card that was supported by only US-based and UK-based telecoms gave consumers the ability to switch between carriers for data plans. The report says that the new SIM card isn't meant to replace Apple's SIMs.

Game of the year 2015


It's an indication that 2015 has been an impressive year for games, when a Rocksteady Studios Batman: Arkham title doesn't break into the Game of the Year Top Five list, and settles for a respectable seventh place from Push Square instead. Even its E3 2015 trailer was overshadowed beneath the cowl of amazing announcements that preceded it during Sony's greatest E3 press conference of all time.

Yet, in hindsight, the 'I've Got You Under My Skin' opening movie E3 trailer was a recurrent example of Rocksteady's reverence towards classic graphic novels, which is a rewarding payoff for Batman fans. A game set throughout the single evening of the 31st October may initially draw comparisons to Batman: The Long Halloween, but a supervillain whose ambition is to crawl inside our hero's head was also reflective of Batman: The Killing Joke.

The Arkham series' fundamentals are intact, including weighty combo brawling boosted by switching between Batman's buddies, detective mode puzzles, and predatory stealth. It's the introduction of the Batmobile that became divisive, as despite Pursuit Mode being exciting for chasing down speedy militia APCs, repetitiveness followed the initial enjoyment of dodging three-way spread fire from Diamondback Drones. However, it was the bane of sneaking behind aggressive Cobra Drones that broke the back of any Batmobile fun, but given the choice we'd still prefer for Batman's sleekly armoured vehicle to be included in future games.

It's also advisable to shuffle between side missions to supplement the main game, rather than completing all nine story mode chapters in succession. The world feels more complete when you scrutinise the skies to find Man-Bat, and search for clues from hanging mutilated bodies to solve the perfect crime. This way the locations become more memorable, so you'll recognise the Ace Chemicals, GCPD, and Panessa Studios landmarks on Bleake Island, or keep hush about the contents of Wayne Tower, while avoiding Riddler traps in Pinkney Orphanage on Miagani Island. The construction work on Founders' Island has looming Stagg Enterprises Airships above it, for when the Dark Knight chooses to explore the skies instead of the streets.

Even if the diversity of a rain-lashed gothic and atmospheric open world can no longer recreate the tight Metroidvania progression through smaller environments from Batman: Arkham Asylum, there's a strong argument for Batman: Arkham Knight having the most compelling video game depiction of Gotham City. It's not just the sense of scale, but the smoothness of launching a grapnel boost into a dive and glide manoeuvre that makes navigation a joy. As long as you can grapple against your nostalgia about the claustrophobic alleyways in Batman: Arkham City, you'll recognise that Rocksteady's 2015 game benefits from expansion, as traversal becomes more approachable.

With an unlockable full Knightfall protocol ending frustrating gamers due to a necessity to painstakingly solve 243 riddles, it's not always acknowledged that the extra Riddler battle is one of the game's best boss fights. Also, playing New Story Plus on Knightmare difficulty is a rewarding way to showcase your skills during a second play-through. Rocksteady clearly loved creating a world around Batman, so as the DC Extended Universe expands across film in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, it may be an ideal time to revisit Batman: Arkham Knight on a dark rainy evening in 2016.

Keep an eye out for references to the wider world of DC superheroes and supervillains scattered throughout Gotham City, as although it's been six months since Batman: Arkham Knight was released, it's still worth re-reading Push Square's 8/10 review, and discovering for yourself if Commissioner James Gordon was correct in stating, "This is how the Batman died".

Gionee M5 Plus with 6 inch FHD AMOLED display, 5020mAH battery to launch on Dec 21

After having launched the Gionee Marathon M5 with a large 6020mAH battery in India the Chinese OEM posted a teaser on its official Weibo account teasing the launch of anothe
r variant of the M5 with a 'Plus' moniker. Today Gionee has finally revealed that they will launch a new device dubbed the Gionee M5 Plus on December 21st.

It is expected that the Gionee GN8001 which passed TENAA a month back will be the Marathon M5 Plus. The TENAA listing had revealed that the GN8001 comes with a 6 inch Full HD (1080x1920p) display with 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass, 1.3GHz Mediatek 6753 SoC and 3GB RAM. The USP of the smartphone however lied in the 5020mAh battery on the inside.

Interestingly a new report from China reveals that the Gionee GN8001 comes with a Fingerprint Sensor embedded in the home button on the bottom of the display. This wasn't however mentioned in the leaked TENAA listing. Furthermore the report suggests that the Gionee M5 Plus will come with Dual Fast Charging Feature i.e. you can also charge any of your smart device using the juice inside M5 Plus.

Other specifications include 32GB/64GB of internal memory, Memory Expansion slot (upto 128GB), 13MP rear and 5MP front facing Selfie Snapper. Connectivity features include Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi b/g/n, A-GPS, USB OTG support and 4G LTE support.

The Gionee Marathon M5 Plus will come in two color variants - White and Gold. The pricing of the smartphone however isn't known as of yet. It worth noting that if battery is your primary concern then Gionee Marathon M5 is still a better choice thanks to a larger 6020mAh battery.

On the contrary the Gionee M5 Plus is meant for users who are in lookout for premium features including a Fingerprint Sensor along with a large battery. However both these devices are out run by the Oukitel K1000 with is simply built like a tank thanks to the whopping 10,000mAH battery on the inside.

ACER's Predator 6 -Gaming handset


Acer is hoping gamers still have room in their hearts for a super-powerful smartphone, previewing the new Acer Predator 6 at IFA . The handset, slipping into the company's Predator gaming line-up which already includes massively powerful laptops and fancy laser projectors, runs Android on a deca-core processor.

That, if your Latin isn't quite up to scratch, means ten cores on one processor. It's from MediaTek's stable, though not all ten cores are likely to be active simultaneously.

Instead think more along the lines of select cores being targeted at certain types of activity: a number of more frugal cores for low-power use, perhaps, leaving the beefier silicon for hardware-intensive activity.


Such activity is the Predator 6's reason for existing, in fact. Inside the oddly-angular casing there's a 6-inch HD display flanked by a full four speakers.

ASUS has also thrown in 4GB of memory, along with motion sensors and haptic feedback that, so the promise goes, should make tapping on-screen buttons feel more like using a physical controller.

Unfortunately while there's at least one working unit floating around at IFA 2015 today, Acer isn't letting anybody actually play with it.

That's because the Predator 6 isn't expected to actually launch until early in 2016, and Acer still has to iron out the lingering bugs. As such, pricing and release details are yet to be confirmed.

QUALCOMM snapdragon 820 cpu coming in august


Qualcomm is facing some difficult times, despite being one of the most popular manufacturers of mobile processors, their most recent high-end offering, the Snapdragon 810 had some issues that are still controversial. In fact, since the 810 processor was in early production, rumors about the high temperatures it reached began to emerge. Those rumors were denied and some companies started to include this processor in their flagship devices, including some by LG, HTC and Sony. Even as the company has released other versions of the processor, the issue is still present. Under this premise, users were always concerned about the temperature of their devices while running some apps and while in most cases this won't be an issue, it seems consistent reports note that this processor does heat up more than those made by the competition.

While we know that Qualcomm is working on a new high-end offering called Snapdragon 820, companies that will release new flagship devices in the second half of the year are rumored to use the current one, even though it is said that the company has sent some samples to some manufacturers of the newer one. Recent reports suggest that the company could finally unveil the Snapdragon 820 on August 11 at a conference in Los Angeles. What we know so far is that its 64-bit cores will be custom built, called Kryo, instead of using ARM's Cortex architecture, plus it would be built using a FinFET process.

Now, there are new rumors about the specifications of the Snapdragon 820 which now seem likely to be confirmed next week. Apparently the new chipset will have a quad-core configuration, two of them clocked at 1.7 GHz and the other two will run at 2.2 GHz. The graphics will be powered by the Adreno 530 GPU at 650 Mhz. An LTE Cat. 10 modem will be included and the chipset will support the faster LPDDR4 RAM while keeping an eye on support for 4K video. The company would probably want this new processor to be released as soon as possible to recover its reputation, but rumors indicate that the first devices to use it first re unlikely to available sooner than March of next year.

Micromax Canvas Xpress 2 first glance with specs!!

Micromax Canvas Xpress 2 smartphone with 5.00-inch 720x1280 display powered by 1.4GHz processor alongside 1GB RAM and 13-megapixel rear 



Micromax has launched its new Canvas Xpress 2 smartphone priced at Rs. 5,999.
The Micromax Canvas Xpress 2 will be available online exclusively via Flipkart. The company has announced that the new smartphone will be sold in India via the flash sale model and the first sale will be on August 4 at 2pm IST. Registrations for the first flash sale will start on Monday itself at 6pm IST, and will end midnight on August 3. Micromax has also announced a free bundled data offer on Vodafone. New Canvas Xpress 2 consumers will be receiving up to 500MB free 3G data on Vodafone for first 2 months.

The company touts that the new Canvas Xpress 2 is the country's 'most affordable octa-core smartphone.'

The Micromax Canvas Xpress 2 features a 5-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) IPS display and also comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for protection. It is powered by a 1.4GHz octa-core MediaTek (MT6592M) processor coupled with 1GB of RAM.

The smartphone comes with 8GB of inbuilt storage and supports expandable storage via microSD card (up to 32GB). The Canvas Xpress 2 sports a 13-megapixel autofocus rear camera with OV sensor, 5P Largan Lens, Blue Glass filter, and dual-LED flash. There is a 2-megapixel fixed-focus front-facing camera also onboard.

The Android 4.4.2 KitKat-based Canvas Xpress 2 is claimed to be upgradeable to Android 5.0 Lollipop. The smartphone will be available with Jet Black finish with a gold rim on the sides. The handset is backed by a 2500mAh battery which the company claims can deliver up to 9 hours of talk time and up to 393 hours of standby time. The dual-SIM smartphone also features a Cirrus Logic Wolfson Stereo DAC chip for enhanced speaker output.



Commenting on the launch, Shubhajit Sen, CMO, Micromax Informatics Ltd. said, "We are today proud to announce the launch of Micromax Canvas Xpress 2 - the most affordable octa-core smartphone in the market. Sorry, India, you'll have to wait for Cortana in Windows 10!!

If you were hoping to use Cortana, Microsoft's voice-activated digital assisstant in Windows 10 as soon as you upgrade, here's some bad news: you're going to have to wait. Microsoft is updating the software with "strong local content", according to Microsoft India Director (Windows Business Group) Vineet Durani.


Microsoft, which unveiled its much-awaited Windows 10 operating system globally and in-built Cortana today, has held back from launching the Siri rival rival in India.

"Cortana will be made available to Insiders (developers with Microsoft) in the coming weeks and then later to consumers," Durani said.



People can use the virtual assistant to find data, track information, set reminders, etc.

"Cortana is not just an assistant. It understands the context and answers accordingly. It is not just about understanding accents. So, there is a strong localisation that needs to be done," he said.

WHAT IS AMT??? explained

AMT(Automate Manual Transmission)


    The concept of an AMT transmission is actually quite simple when one dissects the technology to its bare basics. An AMT is actually a manual transmission with an electromechanical clutch actuator. The biggest advantage and incentive for manufacturers to opt for an AMT gearbox instead of a conventional automatic gearbox is the price advantage they face since the base transmission is actually the same.

In a conventional manual gearbox, a set of cables or a link usually operates the gearbox in a two-step process. If the gearbox is cable operated like for example in a Tata Nano, two cables do the process of selection and engagement of the gears. The selection cable is actuated when one moves the gearshift lever from left to right or vice versa. The engagement cable is actuated when one actually shifts into one of the gates to engage a gear. Similarly, a link operated gearbox, like the single-link shifter mechanism found in the old Maruti 800 works on a similar principle. In the case of the 800, the link rotates for the selection process and moves longitudinally to the centreline of the car to engage a gear. Simplifying the shifter process, an Automatic Manual Transmission, or AMT essentially negates these mechanical linkages by replacing them with electromechanical individual devices that work off the engine management and transmission management control units.

The electronically controlled clutch actuator uses an electric motor to operate the clutch instead of a conventional pedal and cable operated setup. In the clutch actuator, the rotary movement of the electric motor is transferred via a set of gears to a linear movement that is needed to engage and disengage the clutch via the pressure plate. The clutch is operated via a release lever and bearing which then helps to engage or disengage the gears in the transmission. ZF Sachs, the pioneers of the AMT gearbox claim that this setup not only simulates clutch-less driving for the driver, but also increases the life of the clutch components while cutting down on emissions and increases fuel economy.

In an AMT, the electromechanical or sometimes hydraulically operated actuators take over the clutch and shift action, but do not take away driving pleasure. This is predominantly due to the fact that the driver can still choose to manually engage a particular gear through either a shifter lever or a steering mounted paddle shifter. With their optimised shift points, AMTs also help reduce torque interruption to a minimum between shifts. As an array of sensors register and convey all key information through a transmission control module, the system can automatically adjust shift points and control the clutch according to driver based input. The AMT’s ECU can also intervene to improve safety by automatically interrupting drive flow to counter the risk of skidding if the vehicle loses traction.

Apart from giving the driver the pleasure of driving an automatic car, the AMT system was essentially developed to automate manual transmissions in vehicles that cannot have a conventional automatic transmission. The AMT can also help in cars where a conventional automatic transmission or a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) is difficult to install due to cost, weight or installation space constraints.
