USB 3.0 vs USB 3.1 vs USB-C vs USB-D

USB 3.0


Released in November 2008, The first two USB 3.0 certified motherboards are from ASUS and GIGABYTE. USB 3 is now considered to be the standard connectivity option in mobile and pc platforms.USB 3 is the successor to USB-2 with more improvements in physical wise and performance wise.
  • Transfer speed of 5Gbit/s
  • Two unidirectional data paths,one for receiving and other for transmitting
  • speed level: super speed

USB 3.1

 Released on july 2013.MSI is the first one to get certified for usb 3.1 and is twice the improvement to USB-3,giving double the performance.USB 3.1 standard is backward compatibility with USB 3.0 ANS USB 2.0
  • Transfer speed of 10Gbit/s
  • speed level : 2x super speed or Superspeed plus or Superspeed+


USB TYPE - C

Released on april 2015.Same spec as USB 3.1 but small change in physical appearance .A more improved and useful change over 3.1.We are always disturbed when in case of pluging in a usb in right direction,so to get rid of that problem they released a new type called "C",which looks different from other Types B and A

USB TYPE - D

 Release date is note confirmed .But samsung has already starting to implement USB type -D to their upcoming laptops,They are going to release D type before apple does.USB D will be of USB 4.1 version

  • speed level: Ultraspeed or Ultraspeedplus,
